Scott Smith

Scott's role

Scott brings over a decade’s worth of practice experience working directly in a trauma informed manner with individuals who have extreme social, emotional and behavioural needs. Alongside building relationships with both clients and their families, his work here has seen him engage in effective assessment and planning with a range of professionals from the Social Work, Educational, and Health sectors. Scott embraces and values the necessity of shared collaborative working in improving lives through both strengths based approaches and objective defensible risk assessment to address individual need.

Scott brings extensive practitioner insight about the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences, and has a particular interest in contemporary research relating to trauma. He is a strong advocate for practitioners operating in a trauma informed environment to be supported compassionately to explore their natural emotions and reactions without unreasonable fear of competence being questioned. For this purpose, one of his main interests in Community Justice Scotland is in developing and facilitating peer supported, non-judgemental action learning with relation to safe reflective spaces.

Background

Scott’s initial degree way back was in mathematics, and as such is involved in modelling and data projects internally where required. A keen focus of interest for him is assisting the community justice sector in projecting the impact of the increased court activity following Coronavirus restrictions easing.
