Report by the late Professor Jackie Tombs
In August 2020, Scotland and the world lost a unique, influential and much loved voice in the justice narrative, with the passing of Professor Jackie Tombs. Jackie was a good friend and valued support to CJS staff, and through her participation in our Academic Advisory Group she helped inform our early steps in developing community justice.
In 2017, CJS asked Jackie, along with Professor Andrew Coyle, to write a paper for CJS that drew on their shared and unparalleled experience in the history of Scotland’s ever developing justice journey. ‘Community Justice Scotland: The past, present and future’ is published here for the first time.
We are moving through a time of unprecedented change, but though we are now without Jackie’s support and candour, we can still take forward lessons learned from her invaluable insights.
